AS3 Synth;

Wow, HTML &Tities, been a while.

Today, I made a synthesizer in AS3. Not a real one, mind.
It’s the basic-est of the basic, but I had a lot of fun making it and thought it was worth sharing.

You can use your keyboard as a, well, keyboard.
Q is C5, Z is C5 sharp, S is D5, and so on up to K (= C6).
and switch between waveforms/sound of the synth by using the buttons in the middle.

Notice that the Triangle one (3rd from the left) doesn’t do anything.
That’s because I couldn’t find a proper function to run it. Wikipedia’s too math-y (even for me) and haven’t found much help anywhere else.
(There’s A LOT of technical stuff that I’m just unable to sort through out there). So if anyone knows : Please tell me.
Triangle-waves are the nicest ones.

Anyways: A big thanks goes out to Bit-101 for its series on Sound Synthesis which I basically modded for personal entertainment.

Building AIR apps in Flex Builder 3 with AS3 and hardly any flex

Flex Builder is awesome for many reasons, for one it’s insanely easier to write actionscript than flash itself.
SO: I wanted to build myself an air application in flex builder, but I don’t know any flex…
After some serious googling and piecing together some tutorials I found a way to work around my limited knowledge of Flex.
Here’s how:

First of all, create a new Flex project and choose Desktop Appilcation(runs in air) as the application type.

In the src-folder there should be a file named ‘yourAppName-app.xml’. Open this file and change the following:

Now Create your AS3 class that will act as the main AS3 class for your application, make sure it extends some sort of displayObject (most likely Sprite) so you can add it to the stage.
In my case i’ll call it Application.as extending Sprite.
For Demonstration purposes, this class just draws a black square in the top left of the screen.

Once your Actionscript class is in place, open the one flex file named ‘main.mxml’ or ‘yourAppName.mxml’, which should sort of look like this

Ik heb de neiging om,ondanks mijn aanzienlijke collectie alrijd maar naar 30 of 40 liedjes te luisteren.
